ANDRES RETAMERO: BETWEEN REALITY AND IMAGINATION

ANDRES RETAMERO: BETWEEN REALITY AND IMAGINATION

AVRA Gallery introduces Andres Retamero, whose artistic practice spans more than thirty years. His paintings explore the inner world of the individual, the search for freedom, and the desire to preserve a sense of self.

Working in oil on canvas, Retamero combines realistic figures with unexpected, almost dreamlike narratives. Expressive gestures, symbolic details, and contrasts between rich and muted tones create a distinctive emotional tension. His subjects convey vulnerability, quiet inner strength, and a mystery that holds the viewer’s gaze. The artist deliberately leaves meaning open, allowing viewers to discover their own stories and associations.

Retamero’s works are held in private collections in the United States, Italy, France, Spain, and other countries. He is a member of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC). In 2025, his work was featured in Pintura Cubana II. Selección de maestros y alumnos, an art book published in Spain and presented at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana.
