Contemporary Artist | Mixed-Media Painter
Sandra De Souza-Peixoto is a contemporary mixed-media artist born in the United States and raised in Lima, Peru. Her multicultural background, together with her experience in graphic design, interior design, and sculpture, has shaped a practice deeply informed by composition, materiality, texture, and the human form.
Her work explores human connection, identity, and the invisible emotional forces that exist between people.
Artistic Approach
Moving between figuration and abstraction, De Souza-Peixoto deconstructs the human form to create layered psychological spaces. Figures emerge, overlap, fragment, and dissolve, allowing presence and absence to coexist within the same composition.
Working intuitively with mixed media, texture, expressive gestures, and translucent layers, she builds each painting through repeated acts of covering and revealing. Her recent series, Invisible Bonds, explores the unseen connections, tensions, and emotional traces that remain between people.
Art in the Interior
With their layered surfaces, expressive forms, and sophisticated neutral palette, De Souza-Peixoto’s paintings complement contemporary, minimalist, and eclectic interiors.
Their balance of abstraction and figuration creates a strong visual presence while allowing each work to remain refined and harmonious within the space. Larger canvases can serve as powerful focal points, while medium-scale works bring texture, depth, and emotional character to an interior.
