The title comes from the Latin Onus Coronae, meaning “The Burden of the Crown.” The crown becomes a symbol not only of power and ambition, but also of responsibility, inner pressure, and the price a person may pay for striving to hold a certain place in the world.
In Nik Kruglove distinctive visual language, Cubist fragmentation, Surrealist imagery, and expressive line are combined with soft color accents. The central figure seems to exist within a complex system of symbols and forms, balancing personal desires, status, and the expectations of the outside world.
This original work is created in mixed media using watercolor, acrylic, marker, and pastel on delicate handmade paper. The natural texture, individual surface irregularities, and distinctive character of the paper are an integral part of the artwork.
